impressive debut ep from new duo bearweasel are a new production duo, consisting of dean muhsin and louisa page. with a remix already out on perc trax they debut with this superb ep for audioflys new label. opening track >monkier< is brilliant. combining a touch of latin percussion with swollen basslines and brilliant horn stabs scattered througout its one of my favourite tracks of recent months. second track >drummer< is just as good – its wonky techhouse with a funky bassline and small-but-effective breakdown. remix of >monkier< comes from my favourite hamburg-based croatian, solomun. his version takes it deeper, with a lazier attitude but a warm vibe. a quality debut and a duo to watch out for in 2008.

maria fresca is a project by franco cinelli and dario zenker, which is based on a true live musical experience. since they met the first time and smoked a couple of blunts, theyve thought about working something out together. and here is the result. spaced, dubbed out kickless journeys through their musical universes, like timothy learys housekeeping woman from the french alps on rollerblades. where is the kick? the basedrum? well, if it doesnt show up, dont wait for it because there wont come any. dance music without basedrum seems useless to you? if you think so, just listen to that cut really carefully and you wont even recognize that there isnt one. the rhythm is the main theme here

its almost 4 years to the day that jeff samuels >throatwobbler mangrove ep< was released on karloff #03, and even today the four world hits of the record are getting digged out by djs, when the minimalism needs to either groove or jack again. so now with >return of the throatwobbler< theres finally an appropriate follow-up by the man from seattle.. erm.. berlin, after he’s impressively run riot in the meantime, on labels like spectral, trapez, poker flat, frankie and logistic. the a-side >terso< is shuffling and twirling and bouncing in such a winsome way that not many can master like jeff samuel. almost like an electric ray - left and right and left, and without letting any tempting gimmicks take the mind off the straight path. appropriately enough, >the spook< on the b-side comes along a bit more spookily, with a bassline twisting into the brain, ripped up by miniatures of bleeps and chords just in the right moments, and thus leading the track to an agile, exhilarated climax

first single from the stunning hunterville long player from rodney hunter. guest remixes by the neighbouring germans adds to the rightfully expected release on this 12inch. man of the moment christian prommer takes wanna groove on the more gentle percussion trip at first that simply builds and builds into a classic education process. elegant programming as you would come to expect from voom voom/fauna flash/trüby trio team member. it ends at just over ten minutes but the ride spanned a minor evolution in techno terms. wahoo boys, aka georg levin & steffen berkhahn bring back some of the bounce and shuffle and a tambourine shake or two. again, these guys know a thing or two about moving feet and hips and making people heat up their body temperatures.
